SPAN-296 Mestizaje: Myth and Reality of the Mexican Nation-State (3 cr.) Racial & Ethnic Studies Category A, Arts and Humanities - Foreign Language and Culture Repeatable for Credit: No Study abroad course. Interrogation of the foremost organizing myth of the Mexican nation-state: mestizaje or, miscegenation. Study of seminal texts from Mexican authors, while visiting archaeological and cultural sites within the state of Oaxaca. Race as a central category for structuring social and economic relations while honing students’ reading, writing, and speaking skills in Spanish. Prerequisite: Take SPAN 201
