Applied Science, B.S. 4-year sequences:
Introduction
The Applied Science program offers the experience of learning science by doing science. The program emphasizes a broad scientific base plus experience in a chosen concentration and/or minor. Graduates prepare for careers in the sciences as well as further study in the allied health professions and graduate schools.
In addition to fulfilling the university’s basic admission requirements, Applied Science applicants must have an ACT math score of at least 22 (SAT math 510) and rank in the upper 40 percent of their high school class, have a GPA of 3.0, or have a composite ACT score of 22. Transfer, returning students, and those accepted with the pre-APSC designation must have achieved a grade of “C” or better in CHEM-135 and MATH-153 or MATH-156.

Racial and Ethnic Studies (6 credits*)
Three credits must be selected from RES-A.

Complete a program of university-approved work or study abroad, or 6 credits of global perspective approved courses.

Note(s):
If students choose MATH 153 , one credit from either CHEM 136 College Chemistry II (5 cr.) or PHYS 282 University Physics II (5 cr.) will be applied to the ARNS requirement to complete 10 credits.
Arts and Humanities (6 credits)
Courses must be from two or more areas including art history/music & theater appreciation, creative/performing arts, foreign language and culture, history, literature, and philosophy.
Social and Behavioral Sciences (6 credits)
Courses must be from two or more areas including anthropology, economics, geography, political science, psychology and sociology.
Cross-disciplinary Issues (3 credits)
Courses must be from the list of approved cross-disciplinary issues courses.
Social Responsibility and Ethical Reasoning (3 credits)
Courses must be from the list of approved social responsibility and ethical reasoning courses.
Selectives (3 credits)
Courses/credits may be selected from any category to meet the 40-credit requirement.
Major Studies (80 credits)
Required Core (3 credits)
Take the required Applied Science courses and choose one concentration to complete 120 credits.

Concentration Requirement (62-70 credits)
Choose an area of concentration from the following:
- Applied Physics (APP)
- Industrial Chemistry (INC)
- Interdisciplinary Science (IDS)
- Materials and Nanoscience (MNS)
Applied Physics Concentration Program Requirements
Apply physics concepts to develop technology, systems and devices; bridging physics and engineering.
A minimum grade of 2.0 is required in all physics courses.
Technical Electives (11-17 credits)
Choose from from the following list of approved electives, and/or any 3XX level or higher courses with the following prefixes: CEE-, CS-, ENGR-, MATH-, ME-, or MSCS- to complete 120 credits.

Take enough credits at the 2XX level or higher in BIO, CHEM, NANO, or PHYS to reach 78-79 credits total in the concentration. At least 10 of these credits need to be a the 3XX level or higher.
Minor or Second Major
Students should work with a minor advisor to complete requirements. Different minors require different numbers of credits. Credits used in the minor cannot also be used as elective credits within the concentration with the exception of courses required in both the minor and the concentration.

Declare a second major in lieu of a minor. Students must work with both program directors to meet requirements for each major. Completion of two majors will exceed 120 credits.
