Science Education, B.S.

Introduction

The B.S in Science Education program at UW-Stout prepares students for a career teaching science at the middle and high school level.  Students in the program may choose to complete two of the following science teaching certifications: broadfield science, biology, chemistry, physics, earth and space science, and environmental science.

Program Requirements

Analytic Reasoning and Natural Sciences (10 credits)


Arts and Humanities (6 credits)


Courses must be from literature (3 credits) and creative/performing arts (1-3 credits). Remaining credits must be from art history/music & theater appreciation, foreign language and culture, history, and philosophy.​

Social and Behavioral Sciences (6 credits)


Cross-disciplinary Issues (3 credits)


Social Responsibility and Ethical Reasoning (3 credits)


Selective (3 credits)


BIO 111  provides 1 credit; choose 2 additional credits from any general education area.

Major Studies (80 credits)


Student Teaching/Internship (16 credits)


Select 16 credits of student teaching or teaching internship from approved list.

  • SCIED-XXX Student Teaching (16.00 cr.)

Science Courses (40 credits)


Students must complete a least one major certification and one different major or minor certification.

Biology: Major Certification (28 credits)

Chemistry: Major Certification (28 credits)

Physics: Major Certification (28 credits)

Biology: Minor Certification (18 credits)

Chemistry: Minor Certification (18 credits)

Earth and Space Science: Minor Certification (18 credits)

Environmental Science: Minor Certification (18 credits)

* Student must earn a “C” or better in all professional education and introductory science courses.

Teacher Education Requirements
