Computer Networking and Information Technology, B.S.: 4-year sequence
Introduction
The CNIT program follows UW-Stout’s unique hands-on, active learning approach. As a CNIT student, you will gain real-world experience as you design, implement, and administer local and wide-area networks. You will take courses in emerging fields such as virtualization, cloud computing, network programmability & automation, unified communication, information security, IP Telephony, and wireless networking.
The CNIT program focuses on:
Cybersecurity and Cyber defense
Enterprise Network Infrastructure Setup, Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Server Installation, Configuration and Administration
Network System Design
Ethical Hacking and Network Security
Linux Systems and Network Administration
IP Telephony (VoIP)
Wireless System
Virtualization and Cloud Computing
Unified Communication and Collaboration
Network Programmability & Automation

Racial and Ethnic Studies (6 credits*)
Three credits must be selected from RES-A.
Global Perspective (6 credits*)
Complete a program of university-approved work or study abroad, or 6 credits of global perspective approved courses.
General Education (40 credits)
Communication Skills (9 credits)
Analytic Reasoning and Natural Sciences (11-12 credits)
At least one math or statistics course and a natural science course with a lab are required.
Arts and Humanities (6 credits)
Courses must be from two or more areas including art history/music & theater appreciation, creative/performing arts, foreign language and culture, history, literature, and philosophy.
Social and Behavioral Sciences (6 credits)
Courses must be from two or more areas including anthropology, economics, geography, political science, psychology and sociology.
Cross-disciplinary Issues (3 credits)
Social Responsibility and Ethical Reasoning (3 credits)
Courses must be selected from the list of approved social responsbility and ethical reasoning course list.
Selective (1-2 credits)
Courses/credits may be selected from any category to meet the 40-credit requirement.
Major Studies (80 credits)
Group 2 (5 credits)
Electives may be chosen from any courses with the following prefixes: BUXX, CNIT, CS, ELEC, INMGT, ICT and TRHRD. Minors and Specializations may require additional credits beyond program maximum.
