Introduction

The B.S in Science Education program at UW-Stout prepares students for a career teaching science at the middle and high school level.

Note: This program is designed to meet the requirements for licensure in the State of Wisconsin. If you reside outside of Wisconsin, please note that UW-Stout cannot confirm whether this program (or course) meets requirements for professional licensure in your state. Students from other states will need to contact their state regarding licensure requirements.  See the following website for additional information.

Total for graduation 120 credits  
General Education 40 credits  
Major Studies 80 credits  

Program Requirements


Racial and Ethnic Studies (6 credits*)


Global Perspective (6 credits*)


Complete 6 credits of global perspective (GLP) approved courses, including GLP-approved instructor-led study abroad courses, or complete a program of university-approved work or university-approved study abroad not led by UW-Stout instructors.

General Education (40 credits)


Analytic Reasoning and Natural Sciences (10 credits)


Arts and Humanities (6 credits)


Courses must be from literature (3 credits) and creative/performing arts (1-3 credits). Remaining credits must be from art history/music & theater appreciation, foreign language and culture, history, and philosophy.​

Social and Behavioral Sciences (6 credits)


Cross-disciplinary Issues (3 credits)


Social Responsibility and Ethical Reasoning (3 credits)


Selective (3 credits)


BIO-111 provides 1 credit; PHYS-241 provides 2 credits.

Major Studies (80 credits)


Student Teaching/Internship (16 credits)


Select 16 credits of student teaching or teaching internship.

Science Courses (40 credits)


Students must complete a total of 40 credits of science, including 29 credits of required science courses and 11 credits of elective science courses.

Note(s):


* Students must earn a “C” or better in all professional education and required science courses.

Teacher Education Requirements
