         Engineering Technology, B.S. 4-year sequences:

Introduction

UW-Stout’s Engineering Technology degree provides a broad background in industrial practices combined with an in-depth study in an engineering-related concentration. The program is designed to prepare graduates for industrial positions related to the engineering concentration area, with an appropriately broad background for later advancement into management positions. Typical entry-level positions include Design Engineer, Project Engineer, Plant Engineer, Process Engineer, Designer, Industrial Engineer, Production Scheduler and Applications Engineer. Students in the program develop knowledge and competencies in the concentration engineering area, materials and manufacturing methods, management/overview of the industrial organization, effective oral and written communication, and the application of physical science and mathematics principles to understand and solve technological and economic problems found in industry.

To complete the program successfully, students are required to achieve a 2.5 GPA in program coursework, at the time of graduation.

Program Requirements


Racial and Ethnic Studies (6 credits*)


Three credits must be selected from RES-A.

Global Perspective (6 credits*)


Complete a program of university-approved work or study abroad, or 6 credits of global perspective approved courses.

General Education (41 credits)


Analytic Reasoning and Natural Science (14 credits)


Arts and Humanities (6 credits)


Courses must be from two or more areas including art history/music & theater appreciation, creative/performing arts, foreign language and culture, history, literature, and philosophy.

Social and Behavioral Sciences (6 credits)


Remaining course must be from an area including anthropology, geography, political science, psychology and sociology.

Cross-disciplinary Issues (3 credits)


Course must be selected from the list of approved cross-disciplinary issues courses.

Social Responsibility and Ethical Reasoning (3 credits)


Course must be selected from the list of approved social responsibility and ethical reasoning courses.

Program Core (48 credits)


To complete the program successfully, students must achieve a 2.5 GPA in program core and concentration coursework, at the time of graduation.

 

Note: If you are interested in pursuing the MS OSM (Masters) degree, you may take INMGT-600 to meet both your BS requirement and apply three (3) credits toward your MS OSM program requirements.
Please reach out to your BS ET program advisor BEFORE enrolling in the graduate level-course.

Concentrations (32 credits)


Students elect one of the following concentrations by the end of the first year of the program:

  1. Mechanical Design
  2. Industrial Automation
  3. Plastics
  4. ​​​​​​​Production Operations
Concentration Electives (10 credits)

Courses may be selected from MATH 154, MATH 158, MATH 250, CS 125, CS 145, CS 244, CS 248, and any 300 or 400 level course with the following prefixes: BUACT, BUMGT, BUMKG, CS, ENGR, ET, ETECH, INMGT, MFGE, RC, PLE, PKG, ME

Concentration Electives (4 credits)

Courses may be selected from MATH 154, MATH 158, MATH 250, CS 125, CS 144, CS 145, CS 244, CS 248, and any 300 or 400 level course with the following prefixes: BUACT, BUMGT, BUMKG, CS, ENGR, ET, ETECH, INMGT, MFGE, RC, PLE, PKG, ME

Production Operations (32 credits)


Note:  If you are interested in pursuing the MS OSM (Masters) degree, you may take any of the courses INMGT-500, INMGT-520 or INMGT-505,  INMGT-514, or INMGT-640 or INNMGT-565 to meet your BS requirements and apply to the MS OSM program requirements.  You may take at most nine (9) credits (including any applied in the program core) at the graduate level.
