Introduction
The Master of Science in Career and Technical Education (MSCTE) program is designed for working professionals who focus on preparing youth or adults for successful careers through secondary, postsecondary, and adult education programs as well as private sector training programs.  This program provides an opportunity for learners to build a solid knowledge base that supports further discipline-specific understanding and the development of leadership skills. People who complete this degree are working in leadership positions within education and business and industry.

Admission
To be admitted with full status to this program, the applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and have an overall grade point average of at least 2.75.  The applicant must also demonstrate career goals that align with the objectives of the program by submitting a goal statement and resume, and submit two letters of recommendation from current or former supervisors indicating characteristics and experience that make them a good candidate for the program. Applicants seeking the CTE Coordinator and Director of Instruction certification must hold or be eligible to hold a Wisconsin K12 Tier II educator license or equivalent, and submit a background check and any current or previous educator licenses.

A deficiency in these admission requirements does not preclude admission, but may involve additional steps to obtain full admission to the program.

Primary Evaluation Processes
The primary processes used to evaluate program and academic progress include course grades, research evaluation, certification of program completion, and the following program specific processes: application; degree candidacy; and intent to graduate.

Requirements
One-half (50%) of the minimum credits required for graduation from this program must be in graduate-level only (700/800) courses.

Additional requirements for this degree include (a) completion of at least 30 semester hours of graduate credit with an overall graduate grade point average of 3.0 or better; (b) approval for degree candidacy at the appropriate time; and (c) a course distribution which is outlined here:

Note: One concentration within this program is designed to meet the requirements for CTE Coordinator and Director of Instruction licensure in the State of Wisconsin. If you reside outside of Wisconsin, please note that UW-Stout cannot confirm whether this program (or course) meets requirements for professional licensure in your state. Students from other states will need to contact their state regarding licensure requirements.  See the following website for additional information.

Preparation for Further Development

The student should confer with the program adviser in choosing the elective credits to complete the 30-credit hour degree requirements. There is considerable flexibility in the program with regard to electives, and they may be taken as needed to fulfill the individual goals and objectives of the student. If appropriate to your goal, electives may be chosen from your technical field. This bulletin lists technical courses, which are available for graduate credit. Students are urged to investigate advanced subject matter courses suitable to their career goals; in some cases, it may be desirable to transfer them courses from another institution. However, prior approval to take or transfer any course should be obtained.

Students choosing either option for the CTE Coordinator/Director of Instruction are required to take specific courses to meet WI Department of Education licensure requirements. Consult with the program director regarding questions about any of the requirements.
