Introduction

Applied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ABMB) majors develop expertise in modern biomolecular sciences so they can make original discoveries, solve problems, and meet societal needs.  Immerse yourself in a stimulating curriculum that combines strong fundamental theory and cutting-edge research.  Our classrooms integrate small-group research activities.  Students also participate in individualized research projects, field experiences, and cooperative internships.  Discover your passion for understanding living systems while building valuable skills and knowledge.  Make your career in the biomolecular sciences, healthcare, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries!

Transfer Students

Earned a grade of C- or better in all college level science coursework taken previously. If you do not meet this requirement, you will be admitted as a Pre-Applied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. You may then qualify for the Applied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major by completing the appropriate courses at UW-Stout.

Total for Graduation 120 credits
Stout Core 45 credits
Major Studies 75 credits

Stout Core (45 credits)


Arts and Humanities (6 credits)


Social and Behavioral Sciences (6 credits)


Social Responsibility and Ethical Reasoning (3 credits)


Courses must be selected from the list of approved social responsibility and ethical reasoning courses.

Electives to reach 45 Stout Core credits


Students must also take courses with the following designations:


*Students can choose courses that meet more than one requirement (one Stout Core category and either a RES or GLP deignation)
