Introduction
Master of Science Degree The Master of Science in Training and Talent Development program is designed to prepare professionals who seek to research, implement, and manage talent development programs and services within a variety of organizational contexts. This degree builds upon the student’s interest and experience in developing the employee and the organization through training and talent development opportunities.
Courses in this program use theoretical and practical combinations of activities related to training and talent development. Projects allow students to apply creative solutions and critical thinking to improve individual, group, and organizational performance. Students are offered many opportunities to design training and talent development interventions and corporate-level presentations.
Graduates of the program will be able to:
Lead the Learning Function Serve as a strategic partner with senior leadership, develop and manage human capital, manage and implement learning projects, and evaluate technology to enhance the learning function
Improve Human Performance in an Organizational Context Draw on business acumen, analyze needs, propose solutions, design instruction, deliver training, and measure or evaluate the effectiveness
Facilitate Organizational Change Facilitate strategic planning for change, build trust, influence stakeholders, leverage diversity, and develop strategies and approaches to managing cultural change
Manage Organizational Knowledge Serve as a catalyst for knowledge sharing, understand business technology and how it enables and encourages organizational learning
Admission
To be admitted with full status to the program, applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and have an overall grade point average of at least 3.0 with appropriate work and/or military experience which aligns with the talent development profession. To apply for the program, provide a current resume and applicant goals to the Program Director.
Applicants may be admitted on probationary status if their overall grade point average is less than 3.0 and have met other requirements. Prerequisite courses may be prescribed upon evaluation of undergraduate transcripts if the applicant does not have a strong background in training and human resource development.
Entrance Requirements:
A completed bachelor’s degree in a technical or business field or a field related to training and development.
Able to meet all requirements of the UW-Stout Graduate School and the MS Training and Talent Development program.
A deficiency in these admission requirements may require the completion of additional undergraduate courses, and/or an increase in the number of graduate credits required to earn the degree.
Primary Evaluation Processes
Processes used to evaluate the program and academic progress includes course grades and certification of program completion.
Requirements
One-half (50%) of the minimum credits required for graduation from this program must be in graduate-level only (700/800) courses.
Additional requirements for the degree include: (a) completion of at least 30 semester hours of approved graduate credits with an overall grade point average of 3.0 or better; (b) approval for degree candidacy at the appropriate time; and (c) a course distribution as follows:
