Applied Computer Science, M.S.: 2-year sequence (capstone option) , 2-year sequence (thesis option)
Introduction:
The Master’s degree in Applied Computer Science is designed to provide students with a solid theoretical background alongside practical applications in computing (including topics such as algorithms, databases, and web development). The program invites individuals with some technical programming experience (educational or professional) to gain additional computer science skills that will help prepare them to move to more technical jobs within their fields or to transition into other, related fields. Computer science has applications across a wide variety of fields including the sciences, engineering, business, and the arts and is increasingly needed in those areas. A successful applied computer science student will have strong problem-solving and design skills and the technical ability needed to implement software to solve real-world problems. The curriculum will include 12 credits of required advanced computer science courses along with elective coursework in computer science, mathematics, statistics or other approved disciplines to meet career goals. The program culminates with a practical capstone experience or an applied research project.
