This minor provides students with a hands-on learning experience that will prepare them to assemble and operate uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) for real-world applications such as but not limited to aerial mapping, remote sensing, environmental modeling, search and rescue. Students will learn to integrate sensors and payloads, as required for a mission, into commercial uncrewed aerial systems, and use them for interdisciplinary civilian and commercial applications. They will learn to collect, analyze, and interpret various data collected in flight missions. The minor will also prepare students to obtain a Remote Pilot Certificate under the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Small UAS Rule (Part 107) for flying drones.
