Introduction

The Bachelor of Science in Business Information Technology (B.S. BIT) program at UW-Stout combines essential business principles with advanced technical skills, preparing students for careers at the intersection of business and technology. Through hands-on learning, students develop expertise in leadership, project management, business intelligence, enterprise systems, and emerging technologies. The curriculum covers key business areas, including accounting, management, marketing, organizational leadership, and IT policy, while enhancing technical skills in data management, systems analysis, and introductory programming.

This flexible program accommodates high school graduates, transfer students, and working professionals, allowing them to tailor their education to personal and career goals. With a range of electives, minors, and professional certificates, students can align their studies with specific aspirations.

Major Requirements:  80 credits

Graduates will leave the program with critical competencies in business intelligence, project management, business and systems analysis, and emerging technologies, equipped for success in technology-driven business environments.

Stout Core General Education Requirements (CGER) (33-36 credits)


Math & Quantitative Reasoning (3-5 credits)


Social & Behavioral Science (6 credits)


Humanities & Arts (6 credits)


Natural Science & Wellness (6-7 credits)


Take at least one natural science with a lab.

Civics & Perspectives (3 credits)

Major Studies (80 credits)


Electives and/or Transfer Credits (30-32 credits)


In consultation with their advisor, students select a minor or a set of 30 to 32 credits to complement their degree, customized to their career ambitions.  Any undergraduate credit may be used for the Electives and/or Transfer Credits.
