        Animation and Digital Media, B.F.A.: 4-year Sequence  

Introduction

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Animation and Digital Media at UW-Stout prepares graduates for careers in the rapidly expanding and innovative fields related to animation. Students explore two-dimensional, three-dimensional, character, and other forms of animation for application in entertainment, advertising, information and other motion-visualization industries.

The Animation and Digital Media program will provide students with the specific skills needed to enter the industry, as well as, a strong foundation and breadth of core skills that will allow them to adapt to new technologies and fluctuating industry needs throughout their careers. The animation program integrates and fosters a strong relationship between fine art and digital media. Students will acquire hands on experience using industry standard tools, software and creative techniques, as well as be encouraged to participate in research projects, co-ops or study abroad programs. Upper-level and capstone courses focus on interdisciplinary teams producing animation content.

A 2.0 overall grade point average and a 2.5 or better in Art and Design department courses (ART/ARTH/DES/GDD) is required to complete this Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.  Animation students must present a portfolio of their work in the final semester as part of a public exhibition hosted by the School of Art and Design. 

The BFA in Animation and Digital Media program provides a specialized education and is accredited by the National Association for Schools of Art and Design.

Total for graduation 120 credits  
Stout Core 40 credits  
Major Studies 80 credits  

Program Requirements


Stout Core (40 credits)


Students must take 40 credits with courses in the following categories:

Analytic Reasoning and Natural Sciences (10 credits)


Courses must be from the areas of analytic reasoning and natural sciences. At least one mathematics or statistics course and a natural science course with a lab are required.

Social and Behavioral Sciences (6 credits)


Social Responsibility and Ethical Reasoning (3 credits)


Courses must be selected from the list of approved social responsibility and ethical reasoning courses.

Electives to reach 40 Stout Core credits


Courses/credits may be selected from any category to meet the 40-credit requirement.

Students must also take courses with the following designations:


*Students can choose courses that meet more than one requirement (one Stout Core category and either a RES or GLP designation)
