Geographic information systems are a cross-disciplinary set of digital technologies (including satellite imagery, data visualization, interactive digital cartography, data mining and spatial analysis, and modeling of social and natural processes) used to analyze and understand complex spatial problems and issues. As such, GIS intersects with a wide variety of careers in various fields including geography, planning, history, environmental science, conservation, computer science, emergency mangagement, public health, data science, real estate, retail, government, and business. Modern GIS is about creating, managing, analyzing, and sharing spatial data to improve effeciency and decison making. Students with skills in GIS are in demand in a wide variety of fields.
A minimum grade of “C” is required for all courses applied to the Geographic Information Systems minor.
