The Bachelor of Science in Individualized Studies (BSIS) builds upon the academic strength and framework of UW-Stout’s online customized instruction programs and is focused on returning adults, transfer, and reentry students seeking to advance their careers with degree completion. The student-focused BSIS degree program embraces credit for prior learning and previously earned credits by embedding them within the design of an individualized degree program. This degree-completion program is designed to encourage creativity and allow students to pursue vocational goals outside of discipline-specific majors at UW-Stout. Students must complete 32 credits from UW-Stout.

Communication Skills (9 credits)
Analytic Reasoning and Natural Sciences (10 credits)
At least one math or statistics course and a natural science course with a lab are required
Arts and Humanities (6 credits)
Social and Behavioral Sciences (6 credits)
Social Responsibility and Ethical Reasoning (3 credits)
Courses must be selected from the list of approved social responsibility and ethical reasoning courses
Electives to reach 40 Stout Core credits
Students must also take courses with the following designations:
Racial and Ethnic Studies (2 courses)
Global Perspective (2 courses)
Academic Degree Program or Major Course Requirements: (80 credits)
Interdisciplinary Core (5 credits)
Selectives (27 credits)
Courses listed on student program plan and approved by Program Director
Research Methods (3 credits)
Choose from one of the following:
Technical and Professional Component (45 credits)
Student chooses electives that relate to the student’s professional or technical discipline as approved by program advisor.
