Apparel, Soft Goods, and Footwear Minor

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Academic Programs/Majors

UW-Stout’s Apparel, Soft Goods, and Footwear minor emphasizes a shortened, focused approach to the B.S. in Fashion Design & Development curriculum. This focused curriculum will apply the principles of art and design to an apparel and soft goods technical skillset. You will explore real-world aspects of the fashion industries including designing and developing soft goods. This minor prepares students outside of the Fashion Design & Development major for the opportunity to enhance their skillset for the apparel, soft goods, and footwear industries. Students will experience hands-on skill development with the opportunity to work with ready-to-wear categories including sportswear, knitwear, safety & technical products, and special occasions.

Our students gain experience working on real-world projects with a focus on design and technology. To meet the needs of the fashion industry, the minor offers students the opportunity to focus on creative and technical design, construction, pattern development, color and print development, digital three-dimensional design and fabrication, and garment engineering.

Pursuing a minor in Apparel, Soft Goods, and Footwear prepares students by developing critical thinking and communication skills and providing hands-on experience in key areas of the apparel, soft goods, and footwear industries.
